A newly identified cancer pathway may finally reveal how to stop pancreatic tumors before they spread. A Cornell-led research effort has uncovered how a highly aggressive type of pancreatic cancer is able to enter the bloodstream, addressing a long-standing question about how the disease spreads and pointing to a potential therapeutic target. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma […]

A new study reveals five mechanisms by which microplastics can trigger inflammation and cause damage in the brain. Microplastics may play a role in worsening neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, according to new research that outlines five biological processes through which these particles can trigger inflammation and harm brain cells. More than 57 […]

A radically miniaturized brain implant called BISC is redefining what’s possible in human–computer interaction, offering a paper-thin, wireless, high-bandwidth link directly to the brain. With over 65,000 electrodes and unprecedented data throughput, it enables advanced AI decoding of thoughts, intentions, and sensory experiences while remaining minimally invasive. Ultra-Thin Brain Implant With High-Speed Data Link A […]

New simulations reveal that the Milky Way’s odd split between two chemically distinct groups of stars isn’t a universal galactic rule—it’s just one of many possible evolutionary paths. By recreating dozens of Milky Way–like galaxies, researchers discovered that bursts of star formation, shifting gas inflows, and metal-poor material from the galactic outskirts can all produce […]

A new study reveals that Srinivasa Ramanujan’s century-old formulas for calculating pi unexpectedly emerge within modern theories of critical phenomena, turbulence, and black holes. In school, many of us first encounter the irrational number π (pi) – rounded off as 3.14, with an infinite number of decimal digits – when we learn how a circle’s […]

A distant spiral galaxy called Alaknanda has been found at a time when such orderly systems were thought impossible. With clear spiral arms and intense star formation, it resembles a young version of the Milky Way. JWST data and gravitational lensing allowed astronomers to analyze it with surprising clarity. Its existence hints that galaxies in […]

A detailed suite of simulations conducted by astrophysicists at the Flatiron Institute and their collaborators showed that magnetic fields can produce black holes with masses that were previously believed to be mostly unattainable. In 2023, astronomers recorded a dramatic cosmic event. Two unusually large black holes collided about 7 billion light-years from Earth, and their […]

A new study uses single-cell transcriptomics from a 12-week clinical trial to reveal how kimchi influences the immune system. With seasonal shifts increasing the circulation of respiratory infections such as colds and influenza, a new clinical study has provided scientific evidence that kimchi, a traditional Korean fermented food, can boost the activity of human immune […]

A study has found that people with major psychiatric conditions may age more slowly at the cellular level if they drink 3-4 cups of coffee a day. This moderate habit was tied to longer telomeres, a marker of biological aging. Drinking more than four cups did not show the same effect. Researchers suggest coffee’s antioxidant […]
